Another shoutout to the live orchestra

I know this isn’t the first time I’ve pointed to the orchestra, but what a way to roll out award winners. The mash-up of music from the nominated games, building up to the Game of the Year winner announcement was *chef’s kiss*.

So no, I guess DLC can’t win Game of the Year

By Gianfranco Di Giovanni

Sorry tarnished maybe another year… Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree actually didn’t win anything despite being nominated four times.

Who got multiple awards at The Game Awards?

By Gianfranco Di Giovanni

A few games picked up multiple awards this year.

Both Astro Bot and Metaphor: Refantazio got four awards, Balatro picked up three prizes, and taking home two each were Black Myth Wukong and Helldivers 2.

No Grand Theft Auto VI trailer despite rumours

But where is GTA IV? 🙁

– Madison

Madison you’re right! A new trailer was one of the most hyped gossipy-titbits of this year’s awards, I don’t think you’re the only one who noticed or is disappointed we didn’t get to see anything on GTA6.

An emotional win for Sebastian Brueckner and the Astro Bot team

With a special shoutout to the kids who play Astro Bot, fellow platform developers and the rest of the team, when Sebastian Brueckner made his acceptance speech for Game of the Year 2025 it was heartfelt and moving.

Videogames are about so much more than just gameplay.

Muppets jab at DLC controversy

“I also heard they nominated DLC for Game of the Year… that’s like giving a lifetime achievement award to pre-ordered bonuses.”

Hideki Kamiya will direct the Okami sequel

This is one of the moments it would be incredible to be in the room for, that mighty drum sent goosebumps up my arms.

A live orchestra ushered in the announcement that development has begun on the Okami sequel and will be directed by Hideki Kamiya who produced the first in 2006.

Best Narrative winner – Metaphor: Refantazio

By Gianfranco Di Giovanni

Sam Lake from Remedy might be Geoff’s second-best friend. What a character —  he presented the narrative prize this year. No song and dance moment though.

Good on Metaphor: Refantazio, they are having a top night, with a third win for the ceremony.

Dispatch: the new game with voice acting by Aaron Paul and Laura Bailey

A superhero dispatch centre is the concept for this new one. The voice actors, heroes in their own right, took the stage to announce the new project.

It must’ve been an interesting working environment, considering Bailey insists Paul cannot look at her.

Like a good yarn? Nominees for Best Narrative are here

By Gianfranco Di Giovanni

Video games, as they say, have come a long way since Pac-Man. The stories in these games are top notch, so much so that two of the nominees are actually remakes with fancy new graphics, with Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and Silent Hill 2 proving the stories still hold up after more than 20 years.

  • Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth
  • Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
  • Metaphor: ReFantanzio
  • Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
  • Silent Hill 2
