Crossrail commandeered a large part of the site, paving the way for the site’s wholesale redevelopment. This 1.3Ha site is entirely occupied by subsurface rail infrastructure including the Circle line which could not be closed for a single day. This ‘super-pile’ later proved critical to the emerging design creating a giant external tripod,\u00a0supporting an expressive diamond pattern truss which has become the motif for the building. These fill the available space, and the floorplates literally hang within the trusses \u2013 from the station roof upward, this massive building is an office within a bridge. Only once these arches were closed and the structure rigid, could the concrete floors be poured and the cladding and glazing start to be installed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure
